<< 30 Tarsakh 1493 | 2 Mirtul 1493 >> ## 1 Mirtul 1493 We had the displeasure of speaking with Volo earlier. Other than that, it wasn't a bad day. Skoll made breakfast in the morning. Afterwards, a bunch of us headed to the guildhall to check things out. Between the sign and the gruff-looking dwarf standing near the booth, the Carpenters' Guild was easy enough to find. The leader himself – Vondal Battlehammer – was easy enough to impress too, though I may have stretched the truth a little. I told him that I have five years of carpentry experience, because "five years' worth of experience" sounds a bit more promising than "three shitty cabins' worth." And it did the trick – Vondal had me sign some paperwork, pay some guild fees, and then I was in. That wasn't the only guild I joined today. Ezmerelda was complaining about her new arm this morning; she said that it's of "decent make," but that it's definitely not on par with the quality of her leg – something I can't help but agree with. So, if I'm going to make her a new arm, I'm going to have to learn to work with metal in addition to wood. Thankfully, the Metalforgers' Guild was accepting apprentices. In fact, I'm pretty sure the leader – an aarakocra named Struthio Whiteneck – is taking me on themself. Struthio seems mostly pleasant. They didn't believe me when I told them that I used to be an owlfolk, but they were good-natured in any case. Then there's the fact that they're from Thay. I _think_ I succeeded in not seeming freaked out by this; I'm trying to take it as a "small world" thing, rather than a "my past is going to catch up with me one day" thing. Anyway, I wasn't the only one who took an interest in the guilds; Porter took the time to get licensed through the guild for carters and coachmen, and Ezmerelda signed up for the Weavers' Guild just in case she ends up needing to sell her work in the city. Skoll didn't sign up for anything, but he did volunteer us for a little quest: the leader of the Bakers' Guild lost her cat somewhere out in the woods south of Waterdeep. The forest, it should be noted, is over a days' wagon ride away. But I can't exactly blame Skoll. Getting mad at him for agreeing to find an old lady's cat would be like getting mad at him for his hair being blond; that's kind of just how he is. We – unfortunately – sought Volo out after we were done at the guildhall. We checked the Yawning Portal, since that's where me and Ezmerelda ran into him the last time that we were in Waterdeep. And – despite it only being like two in the afternoon – the Yawning Portal is exactly where we found him, seated at that same damn table. As usual, Volo was… so much. He called me "handsome" and Ezmerelda's "arm candy," and he didn't even appreciate that I didn't punch him in the nose over it. He also decided to be mildly homophobic to Rictavio – strange, considering I've never seen him without his arm around another man – and it wasn't even funny. After Volo made us socialize with him for a bit – like he's a dog or something – he agreed to get in touch with Mordenkainen. We made sure to keep our purpose under wraps, since Volo just might have the loudest mouth in Waterdeep. We ran into Amelia on the way back to the house. She told us that we all have a reservation at the spa in the Castle Ward tomorrow, then she flirted with Skoll a bit (I think she might be doing it partly to make Rictavio mad at this point), and then she was gone once more. So I have that to look forward to. I'm not entirely sure what to expect, since I've never been to a spa – still, it'll be nice to soak in hot water for a while regardless. I definitely _feel_ like I need a bath after talking to Volo today. --- ## Page Tags/Properties **Tags:** #Journal **Category:** Journals and Writings **Character:** Krue **Campaign:** City of Eyes **Date (Harptos):** 05/01/1493
