[[1491-01-07|<< 7 Hammer 1491]] | [[1491-01-09|9 Hammer 1491 >>]] ## 8 Hammer 1491 Mordenkainen saw us off in the morning. He gave me, Skoll, and Nia a gift: a Charm of Nine Lives each in the form of gold medallions. If the charm works works like he said it does, it seems like a very useful thing to have. I can only hope that it doesn’t become necessary, though. As was the journey to the mountains, the journey back to the tower was a long and tedious one. With the exception of the zombies, it was mostly uneventful. We killed all nine of the zombies without issue, but that wasn’t very exciting on its own. The excitement came when Skoll straight-up turned into a mass of flames. Then there was Nia, who - after the fight - just picked up a zombie head (severed by yours truly) and started talking to it, and it started talking back. She didn’t learn anything useful from it - but it was still interesting to watch, in a morbid way. When we got back to the tower, Rictavio was inside, pacing and sweating up a storm. It was then that I realized just how long we had been gone. I felt bad - Rictavio and Yesper were both crazy worried for the rest of us. Skoll followed Rictavio outside and talked to him, though, and he did seem to be a bit less sweaty when he came back in. I sought out Ezmerelda before I settled in for the night. Again, we had an actual conversation, this time about Rictavio. I learned that she and Rictavio had worked together for a while previously before eventually parting ways due to often butting heads. Ezmerelda didn’t much appreciate his propensity for trying to handle everything himself because of his curse-related paranoia. There has to be something that'll get that guy to lighten up. Regardless, it was nice talking to Ezmerelda; it usually is, even when she doesn’t often indicate that the feeling is mutual. As unsure as I am about everything, I am at least sure about this: even with the danger involved, I enjoy Ezmerelda’s company, and I would like her to enjoy mine.
