Comprised of the local Tepestani, the order was named as such due to regional mythology. Their mythology held that ravens were a symbol of their god, having long ago bestowed a powerful talisman called the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind onto the paladin Lugdanna, who the Sovet Vorona maintained was of their same faith. One member of its order was the half-goblin Aurica Markovia, born to a Tepestani mother and a foreign father in 321 BVC. In 346 BVC, Markovia ventured to her father's native land with hopes to establish a church, but found that it had been colonized in the time since by the army Strahd von Zarovich, who named it Barovia. Five years into her efforts, after establishing a church in Krezk, the land was thrown into the Mists in 351 BVC, leaving Markovia stranded in Barovia. Gathering a number of stranded travelers trapped elsewhere in Barovia, Markovia united groups of displaced people, most notably the merchants of the Dorakova Trading Company (from Morova), the half-dwarven brewers of Clan Martikov (from Brigalure), and the occultists of House Strazni (from Darkon). Over time, support for the cause grew among other displaced groups. Perhaps the most notable of these was Cleo de Belview, a Kartakan loup-corbeau, the Kartakan word for "were-raven." She became a close companion of Markovia, who found herself infatuated with her, viewing her as a symbol of the Morninglord. Converting her faithful to lycanthropy, the paladins of their order branded themselves as the Keepers of the Feather and stormed Castle Ravenloft, only to be subsequently slaughtered by its inhabitants. Those that survived, as well as those who stayed behind from the assault, inherited the name of the Keepers. Their fate after this point diverged in many directions. Most eventually found their way out of Barovia and back to their homes, establishing chapters there; some with the church's original religious faith, but most only maintaining an interest in the occult. A sparse number stayed in Barovia, to eventually become the present-day Keepers of the Feather under Danika Dorakova, descendants of the founding families. In 710 BVC, these Keepers raided Castle Ravenloft with the assistance of several recent inductees and famous monster-hunter Rudolph van Richten, losing most of their own in the process. These Keepers subsequently moved to the surrounding lands and founded a new home, the United Settlement of New Markovia. ## Colors !400 ## Trivia * Sovet Vorona means "Order of the Raven" in Vaasi * The Keepers have other branches that extend beyond Barovia and New Markovia --- ## Page Tags/Properties **Tags:** #Organization **Category:** Organizations
