## Information The Domains of Dread were a series of demiplanes located in a remote corner of the [[Shadowfell]], hidden from the rest of the plane by a thick mist. The Domains as a whole were ruled by the [[Dark Powers]], with sections of the demiplanes having been ruled by darklords. The Dark Powers regularly inflicted despair on the residents of the demiplane; in the case of darklords, this despair was inflicted by simultaneously granting them boons and inflicting banes. These banes were tailored to each individual darklord. Although the death of a darklord often caused the associated domain to temporarily return to its original location (often in the [[Material Plane]]), the domain would always eventually return to the [[Shadowfell]] with the darklord revived and the domain's cycle beginning anew. However, all of the domains were permanently returned to their original locations after the [[Re Strahd|Re: Strahd]] party defeated [[Old Death|Death]] (and, by extension, the Dark Powers) on
